Welcome to Claypit Hill Physical Education
with Mrs. LeBaron!
Physical education at Claypit Hill School focuses on movement concepts, both locomotor and non-locomotor concepts and skills, manipulative and non-manipulative skills and fitness, as well as having fun, cooperating with others, teamwork, honesty and respect. Students are exposed to various units that cover each of these concepts. Units that we cover include cooperative games that require cooperation and teamwork as well as throwing and catching, striking with body parts/ implements and dribbling with feet and hands. Below you will find a more specific breakdown of the units and skills we practice by grade level.
Kindergarten and 1st grade
In kindergarten and first grade our students work on locomotor skills such as walking, jogging, running, skipping, etc., spacial awareness (using general space and self-space), both manipulative (throwing, catching, kicking, striking and dribbling) and non-manipulative skills (turning, twisting, and stretching), directions, pathways and effort (fast, medium, and slow).
2nd and 3rd grade
Second and third grade students work on applying movement concepts to games and activities as well as recognize the importance of the main components of fitness. Students work to refine their catching, throwing, kicking, striking and dribbling skills all while applying them in a game or activity setting.
4th and 5th grade
Fourth and fifth graders incorporate a variety of mature movement patterns into games or activities. They understand the main components of fitness and recognize how to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Sportsmanship and cooperation are key goals in many of the games and activities that our 4th and 5th graders participate in. Skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, striking and dribbling
